2. Your agreement with us
These Terms of Use ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and QCONNEC (Pty) Ltd. By creating an account, joining the waitlist, or using any part of the Service, you agree to them.
Two other documents form part of this agreement and are incorporated by reference:
- our Community Guidelines, which set out what may and may not be posted; and
- our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your personal information.
If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.
2.1 Provisions that limit our liability
Sections 12 (Disclaimers), 13 (Limitation of liability) and 14 (Indemnity) limit our obligations to you and place risk on you. Please read them carefully. Nothing in these Terms limits any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 ("CPA") or any other law that cannot lawfully be excluded.
3. Eligibility
To use the Service you must:
- be 18 years of age or older;
- be a student at, or otherwise connected to, a South African tertiary institution we support;
- have received an invitation, or have joined through the waitlist and been admitted when your campus opens; and
- not be barred from using the Service under any applicable law, and not be a person we have previously removed.
Campus Plug is membership by invite. We may limit, stage or refuse access to any person or campus at our discretion, including while a campus has not yet opened.
3.1 Student verification
Some features are reserved for members who have verified their student status, for example by confirming an .ac.za or .edu.za address, or an NSFAS-registered address. Verification tells us that you are a registered student; it is not an endorsement by, or an affiliation with, your institution. Institutions are not party to these Terms.
You must not verify using an address, document or identity that is not your own.
4. Your account
- You may hold one account. Additional, duplicate, bought, sold or transferred accounts are not permitted.
- You are responsible for what happens on your account and for keeping your device and sign-in details secure.
- You must give accurate information and keep it current.
- Your handle and profile are visible to other members. Your referral link contains your handle and is intended to be shared.
- Tell us at support@qconnec.co.za as soon as you believe someone else has used your account.
5. Acceptable use
The Community Guidelines govern what you may post and how you may behave. In addition, you must not:
- break any law, or use the Service to arrange anything unlawful;
- interfere with, probe, overload or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service or its infrastructure;
- scrape, harvest or bulk-collect other members' information;
- use bots, emulators or automation to create accounts, post, or accumulate Plug Points, CampusCash, streaks, referrals or leaderboard position;
- resell, sublicense or commercially exploit the Service or its content without our written permission; or
- misrepresent yourself as another member, as staff, as an institution, or as Campus Plug.
6. Your content
You keep ownership of everything you post — posts, stories, comments, listings, images, videos and messages ("your content").
So that we can operate the Service, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt for display, and distribute your content, for the purpose of running, moderating, securing and promoting the Service. This licence lasts only as long as your content is on the Service, except where it has been shared with others who have not deleted it, or where we must retain it under section 10 of our Privacy Policy.
You confirm that you have the rights to the content you post and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights.
We may remove, restrict or refuse content that breaches these Terms or the Community Guidelines. Moderation decisions may be appealed at appeals@qconnec.co.za.
6.1 Anonymous Feed
Anonymous posts are not shown to other members with your name attached. They are not anonymous to us: they are linked to your account, moderated to the same standard as all other content, and may be disclosed where the law requires it or where there is a risk to someone's safety. Anonymity is not a shield for conduct that breaches these Terms.
7. The Marketplace
The Marketplace lets members list items and find each other. Campus Plug is a venue, not a party to your transaction.
This means:
- Any sale is a contract between the buyer and the seller. We are not the seller, the buyer, an agent, or a party to it.
- We do not own, inspect, store, deliver or guarantee any item listed.
- We do not guarantee that a listing is accurate, that an item exists or is as described, or that either party will complete the transaction.
- Price, payment, handover, returns and any dispute are matters between the buyer and the seller.
Where a seller acts in the ordinary course of business, that seller — not Campus Plug — carries the supplier obligations under the CPA.
7.1 Trading safely
Verification tells you that someone is a registered student. It is not a guarantee of honesty. Meet in public places on campus, inspect an item before you pay, and do not send money to anyone you cannot identify. Report suspected fraud to safety@qconnec.co.za.
7.2 Prohibited listings
The categories prohibited by the Community Guidelines — including drugs, alcohol, tobacco, vapes, weapons, prescription medicines, stolen or counterfeit goods, and academic work or assignment-writing services — may not be listed. We may remove any listing and suspend the account behind it.
8. CampusCash and Plug Points
CampusCash and Plug Points are closed-loop rewards credit. They are not money.
- They have no cash value, cannot be exchanged for cash, and cannot be withdrawn or transferred to a bank account.
- They can be used only inside the Service, for whatever we make them redeemable against from time to time.
- They are not a deposit, not electronic money, not a payment instrument, and not a stored-value facility. We are not a bank and do not provide financial services.
- They are personal to your account and may not be sold, bought or transferred outside the Service.
- We may set, vary or withdraw earning rates, redemption options and expiry, and we will give reasonable notice of a change that materially reduces credit you already hold.
- We may reverse, withhold or cancel credit obtained through error, fraud, automation, or any breach of these Terms.
Deleting your account forfeits any unredeemed CampusCash, Plug Points and unclaimed rewards. Redeem before you delete. This is also stated in our Privacy Policy.
Where a reward is fulfilled by a third party — for example a voucher issued by a partner — that partner's own terms apply to the voucher, and we are not responsible for its acceptance or redemption by that partner.
9. Referrals, ambassadors and campus unlocking
You may invite other students using your referral link. Referrals and any ambassador role are subject to these Terms and to any programme rules we publish.
- Referrals must be genuine. Self-referrals, fake accounts, purchased signups and automated invitations are not permitted, and we may void the resulting credit and rank.
- Waitlist position, campus ranking and campus unlocking are operational features we may adjust, recalculate or change. They are not a promise that a campus will open by any date, or at all.
- An ambassador role is not employment and creates no employment relationship. Any title, reward or reference is at our discretion and may be withdrawn.
10. The Service is under active development
Campus Plug is a new and evolving product, and parts of it are released in beta. We may add, change, suspend or remove features at any time. We do not promise that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at any particular time, and we may schedule downtime for maintenance.
Features described on our website or in the app as planned or "on the roadmap" are statements of intention, not commitments.
11. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the Service at any time and delete your account — in the app, or at campusplug.club/delete-account.
We may suspend or terminate your access, remove content, or withdraw rewards where we reasonably believe that you have breached these Terms or the Community Guidelines, that your account is being used fraudulently, or that continued access presents a risk to another member, to us, or to the public. Where it is reasonable and lawful to do so, we will tell you why and you may appeal to appeals@qconnec.co.za.
Sections 6 (as to content already shared), 8, 12, 13, 14, 16 and 17 survive termination.
12. Disclaimers
To the extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", and we do not give any warranty that it will meet your requirements or be free of faults.
We are not responsible for:
- the conduct of other members, online or in person;
- content posted by members, including listings, claims made in them, and Anonymous Feed posts;
- transactions between members, including non-delivery, misdescription or non-payment; or
- third-party services we link to or rely on, including payment providers, voucher issuers and app stores.
Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including under the CPA.
13. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, and except where liability cannot lawfully be limited:
- we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, revenue, data, goodwill or opportunity; and
- our total liability arising out of or in connection with the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or R1 000.
This does not limit our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that may not be limited by South African law.
14. Indemnity
You indemnify QCONNEC (Pty) Ltd against claims, losses and reasonable legal costs arising from your breach of these Terms or the Community Guidelines, your content, or a transaction you enter into with another member — except to the extent the claim arises from our own breach or negligence.
15. Intellectual property
The Campus Plug name, logo, wordmark, interface, designs and software are owned by QCONNEC (Pty) Ltd or its licensors. These Terms give you a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service — nothing more. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer or create derivative works from the Service except where the law expressly permits it.
If you believe content on the Service infringes your intellectual property, contact legal@qconnec.co.za with enough detail to identify the work and the material complained of. This is also the address for notifications under section 77 of ECTA.
16. Privacy
How we collect and use your personal information is set out in our Privacy Policy. It forms part of these Terms. We process personal information as a responsible party under POPIA.
17. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. If a change is material, we will notify you in the app and, where we hold an address for you, by email or WhatsApp at least 14 days before it takes effect. The "Last updated" date above always reflects the current version, and previous versions are available on request.
If you do not accept a change, you may delete your account before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after that date means you accept the updated Terms.
18. General
- Governing law. These Terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa.
- Disputes. Talk to us first at legal@qconnec.co.za — most issues are resolved that way. If we cannot resolve it, the dispute may be brought before a South African court of competent jurisdiction. If you are a consumer under the CPA, you keep every right the CPA gives you, including the right to refer a complaint to the National Consumer Commission or an accredited ombud.
- Severability. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
- No waiver. If we do not enforce a provision, we do not give up the right to enforce it later.
- Assignment. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms. We may transfer ours as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, on notice to you.
- Whole agreement. These Terms, the Community Guidelines and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service.
